The Roma Supporting Network of Early Age in Serbia (REYNS) launched an initiative at the Local level with the aim of informing all relevant actors in the field of early development in Kragujevac on launching a major national project of preschool education and education reform entitled “Inclusive Preschool Education and Education in Serbia” – “ECEC – Early Childhood Education and Care”.
The project of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia with the support of the World Bank aims to improve the accessibility, quality and fairness of pre-school education, especially for children from vulnerable social groups.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the City Administration for Education, the Office for Roma Affairs, Preschool Institutions in Kragujevac, as well as all relevant Local Institutions (School Administration Kragujevac, Social work Center of the city, Preventive Center of the Health Center, Red Cross) and civil society organizations.
Representatives of the REYNS network presented data on the number of Roma children aged 3-5.5 years who are not included in the system of preschool education. In the context of the defined objectives of the ECEC project, the national coordinator of REYN Serbia emphasized the importance and the expectation that this project initiative should be systemic mechanisms in order to make pre-school education available to Roma children of the early age.
